SECTION 02 · WHY US

Four differentiators

01

Linea PB parts compatibility

Espresso AV uses Linea PB internals. We carry the gaskets, solenoids, and pre-heat elements on the truck. Most repairs close in one visit.

02

Under-counter access tooling

Long-shaft drivers, low-profile flex sockets, articulated mirrors. The right tools for the job that under-counter design demands.

03

Tap-junction inspections included

Every PM visit includes water-line and electrical inspection at the under-counter to above-counter transition. We add protective sleeving where the line passes through cabinet edges.

04

Honest about complexity

If you are still in design phase and asking whether Modbar is right for your bar, we will tell you the maintenance reality: $1,800-$2,400 per year on a 2-tap setup vs. $1,200-$1,600 on an equivalent Linea PB. Aesthetics cost.

Modbar is owned by La Marzocco and the Espresso AV pulls its internals straight from the Linea PB — same group, same boiler architecture, same parts pipeline. The under-counter design is gorgeous on the bar and a workout to service. We do the work other shops avoid because of the access angles.

SECTION 03 · MODELS WE SERVICE

Modbar line-up

M-01

Espresso AV (auto-volumetric)

Linea PB internals in a tap form factor. Multi-stage pre-heat for shot-to-shot temperature stability. Most-installed Modbar in LA.

$15-22K per tap module
M-02

Espresso EP (pressure profiling)

Manual pressure profiling via the lever. For bars that want the Modbar aesthetic with full extraction control.

$18-26K per tap module
M-03

Steam

Standalone steam tap. Vacuum-insulated double-walled cool-touch wand, omni-directional ball fitting. Released as the matched companion to Espresso AV.

$9-12K per tap module
M-04

Pour-Over

Hands-free pour-over with programmable volumes, exact temperature control, and interchangeable shower patterns. Less common in LA cafes than the espresso line.

M-05

Tea

Extension of the Espresso AV system for specialty tea and tea concentrates. Saves recipes alongside espresso recipes.

M-06

Wally / ABR

Wally automatic milk steamer and ABR (Automatic Batch Brew) accessory products. We service both.

SECTION 04 · COMMON PROBLEMS

What goes wrong on a Modbar

  • P-01

    Under-counter access difficulty

Most Modbar service calls take 1.5-2x longer than equivalent counter-top work because the modules sit in cabinets with restricted clearance. Bring on a written quote that reflects this; we do.

    $220-$420
  • P-02

    Steam tip clog (cool-touch wand)

The Modbar Steam tip clogs from milk-protein scale faster than open-frame wands because cool-touch vacuum jacketing makes purging less aggressive. Quarterly cleaning is non-negotiable in milk-heavy bars.

    $95-$185
  • P-03

    Tap mechanism wear

The chromed above-counter tap experiences daily handling stress — cup rests, accidental knocks, cleaning fluid contact. Inspect bushings and shaft seals annually.

    $140-$260
  • P-04

    Water-line connection at tap junction

The water transition between under-counter module and above-counter tap uses braided flex lines that can chafe at the cabinet pass-through. We add protective sleeving on every PM visit.

    $95-$220
  • P-05

Group head gasket leak (Espresso AV)

Same EPDM gasket as Linea PB — same 18-36 month service interval. Symptom is identical: pressure drop during extraction, sometimes drip from the tap base.

    $145-$220
  • P-06

    Pre-heat element fault

Modbar AV uses multi-stage pre-heating for shot-to-shot stability. A failing pre-heat element shows up as drift on the second shot rather than a hard fault. Diagnostic requires bench-watching shot temperatures over 4-5 pulls.

    $280-$520
SECTION 04 · SERVICE TYPES

From emergency calls
to PM contracts.

S-01

Emergency Espresso Machine Repair

When your espresso machine goes down during morning rush, every hour of downtime is direct lost revenue. We dispatch same-day across LA, Orange County, Inland Empire, San Diego, and Ventura for commercial accounts — one phone call, one technician, one bill. The diagnostic visit credits toward the repair when work proceeds the same day.

S-02

Preventive Maintenance Contracts

A PM contract converts unpredictable repair costs into a predictable annual line item. Quarterly visits cover descaling, group-seal inspection, sprayhead cleaning, milk-system deep clean, software firmware checks, refrigerant-system inspection on hospitality equipment (EPA Section 608 Universal certified), and operator-side training refreshers. Twelve years of PM-contract work across SoCal hospitality, restaurant, and corporate accounts. We standardize the schedule across your fleet — one vendor, one parts inventory, one billing cycle.

S-03

Espresso Machine & Coffee Brewer Repair

We repair commercial espresso machines, coffee brewers, and prosumer machines across 28 brands. Twelve-plus years working on every brand in our catalog. Diagnostic-first pricing means we tell you what is wrong and what it costs before any parts are ordered or work begins. The diagnostic charge ($145) credits toward the repair when work proceeds.

S-04

Espresso Machine Installation

New machine installations require plumbing, electrical, drain routing, water-filter setup, and on-site commissioning. We do all of it. Most LA cafe installs complete in a single 4-8 hour visit if the cabinet, electrical panel, and water supply are ready. We coordinate with general contractors when build-out is in progress.

S-05

Water Filtration for Espresso

Water quality is the single biggest variable affecting espresso machine service life and cup quality — more than machine brand, more than barista skill, more than bean choice. We consult, install, and service water filtration to the Specialty Coffee Association brewing standard across SoCal.

S-06

Used Espresso Machine Refurbishment

A 6-year-old commercial espresso machine on the used market is often a better buy than a new mid-tier machine — if it has been maintained and the price reflects its actual condition. We do refurbishment and resale prep for sellers, buy-side inspection for purchasers, and full restoration for heritage machines. The diagnostic-first workflow protects buyers and sellers equally.

SECTION 07 · FAQ

Frequently asked.

Q-01 How much does Modbar repair cost?
Single-issue visits run $185-$520 including labor. Steam-tip cleaning is $95-$185. Group gasket replacement on the Espresso AV is $145-$220. Diagnostic visit alone is $145 and credits toward the repair.
Q-02 Why does Modbar service cost more than Linea PB service?
Same internals, different access. Most Modbar repairs take 1.5-2x the labor time of equivalent counter-top La Marzocco work because the modules sit in restricted cabinets. We are upfront about this on every quote.
Q-03 Are you Modbar authorized?
We service Modbar machines on-site across SoCal. We are not a Modbar-branded service center. We use genuine Modbar / La Marzocco parts where the failure point demands it; for o-rings and gaskets we use the same EPDM grade the factory spec calls for.
Q-04 Does the Modbar Espresso AV warranty cover service from you?
Modbar provides 13 months parts and labor warranty from original ship date. During that window, factory service is your first call. After warranty expires, or for issues outside warranty scope, we are your dispatch.
Q-05 Can you install a new Modbar setup?
Yes, but we coordinate with your general contractor. Modbar installations require under-counter cabinet design, drain routing, 220V circuits, and direct-plumb water. We do final commissioning and the cabinet-side electrical / water work; the contractor handles framing and the casework.
Q-06 My Espresso AV is dripping from below the tap. What is it?
Three usual causes. First, group head gasket has flattened (Linea PB issue, identical part). Second, the water transition line at the cabinet pass-through is chafed. Third, the under-counter module drain fitting has loosened. Diagnostic visit confirms which.
SECTION 08 · CASE STUDY · HONEST OPINION
Recent job

Recent job: 3-year-old Modbar Espresso AV + Steam package at a Beverly Hills hotel lobby cafe, intermittent shot-temperature drift on the AV. Diagnosed as a failing pre-heat element — only visible by bench-watching four consecutive shots and seeing a 1.8°C drop on shots 3 and 4. Replaced the element, recalibrated. Total: 3.5 hours (extra 1 hour for under-counter access), $620 parts and labor.

Honest opinion

Modbar is not a better espresso machine than Linea PB. It is the same espresso machine in a different industrial-design package. If your bar concept demands the under-counter aesthetic, the cost premium is real — about $4-6K more upfront and 30-40% higher annual service cost. If your concept does not specifically require it, save the money and run a Linea PB on the counter.
