SECTION 01 · STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Straight answers for La Cimbali owners

What is your response time for a La Cimbali service call?

Average dispatch in LA County is under 4 business hours on weekdays; you get the arrival window on the call, before you hang up.

What does a La Cimbali service contract cost, and what is included?

Preventive-maintenance contracts run $400–$2,800 per machine per year on a quarterly cycle, 15–25% off from 3 machines; 12-month term, 30-day cancellation.

Do you use remote diagnostics on La Cimbali machines?

No — a traditional machine has nothing to dial into. Diagnosis happens at the machine: pump and group pressure, boiler temperature, and the electrical checks that tell a failed element from a failed board.

Where do La Cimbali parts come from, and how long do they take?

La Cimbali parts are ordered from US parts distributors that carry the line, against the model and serial on the rating plate. Cimbali Group keeps its own spare-parts warehouse in Washington state. The ETA is written into the estimate before we order.

Are you La Cimbali authorized?

No. We are an independent service. Cimbali Group has its own US organisation, and a machine under warranty belongs with the dealer who sold it first. We service La Cimbali machines that are out of warranty, on site, with parts ordered from US distributors.

SECTION 02 · WHY US

Four differentiators

01

The fault is read before the machine is opened

An M100 reports errors per group and keeps them. The first ten minutes of a visit are spent on the screens, and the screwdriver comes out after that.

02

The rating plate decides the order

The same model name covers 6,000 W and 9,200 W machines, and 100–120 V and 208–240 V versions of the M26. Parts are ordered against the model and serial on the plate.

03

One parts process for La Cimbali and Faema

Both brands belong to Cimbali Group and ship from the same US warehouse. A bar that runs one of each gets one order and one lead time.

04

Straight about a machine that left the catalogue

Before quoting on an M100 we check that the part is still listed. If it is not, you hear that on the visit, with what the alternatives are.

La Cimbali builds machines for high-volume restaurant and hotel bars. It belongs to Cimbali Group, with Faema, Casadio and Slayer, and the group moved its US headquarters and spare-parts warehouse to Renton, Washington in 2023. The M100 has left the current catalogue. It is also the La Cimbali we were first asked about, so this page starts with it. On an M100 or an M200 every group has a coffee boiler of its own, and that decides how a fault is found: one group at a time.

SECTION 03 · MODELS WE SERVICE

La Cimbali line-up

M-01

M100 — GT and HD, in DT2, DT3 and DT4

Two, three or four groups. A 10-litre boiler for steam and hot water, plus an independent 0.4-litre coffee boiler on every group. Installed power runs from 6,000 W on a two-group to 9,200 W on a four-group. Software and settings go in through a USB port. No longer in the current catalogue, and still in service.

M-02

M100 Attiva — HDA, GTA, TDA

The 2020 revision. HDA and GTA are multi-boiler. The TDA is a single boiler with heat exchangers and Thermodrive, and it did not receive US certification, so a US machine is one of the first two.

M-03

M200 — GT1 and PROFILE

The current flagship, in two, three or four groups. A 0.6-litre coffee boiler per group and a 7-litre service boiler. GT1 sets the temperature of each boiler; PROFILE adds pressure profiling.

M-04

M40

The current high-volume machine, built around one centralised thermal system. La Cimbali measures its energy use against the M39.

M-05

M26 — DT1 Tall Cup, DT2 Compact, DT2, DT3

One boiler for the whole machine: 5 litres on the DT1 and the Compact, 10 on the DT2, 15 on the DT3. A two-group draws 4,200–4,900 W at 208–240 V. The DT1 and the Compact also exist at 100–120 V, 1,200–1,700 W. The M26 TE RE adds Smart Boiler and Thermodrive.

M-06

M23 UP

Two and three groups, dosed or continuous, plus a Tall Cup version. A thermosyphon machine, the simplest La Cimbali to keep running.

SECTION 04 · COMMON PROBLEMS

What goes wrong on a La Cimbali

  • P-01

    Group gasket and shower screen

The M100 takes a conical gasket, 71 × 56 × 9 mm. When the handle locks in further round than it did a year ago, the gasket has gone flat. Two groups are about 40 minutes with the screens done at the same time.

    $150-$225
  • P-02

    Dispensing error on one group

The machine names the group. La Cimbali’s own order of work is the flowmeter connections first and the flowmeter second, and it is the right order: a loose connector produces the same error as a failed meter.

    $150-$250
  • P-03

    Boiler refill timeout

An M100 stops with an error when its boiler has not filled within a set time. The water supply is checked first, then the refill solenoid valve, then the wiring to it. A filter cartridge that has not been changed is a supply fault, and it costs less than the valve.

    $150-$270
  • P-04

One group will not come up to temperature

Each coffee boiler has its own element, safety thermostat and sensor, driven from a triac board. A group that does not reach temperature in time raises a heating timeout. Thermostat, element, then board, in that order, because that is also the order of cost.

    $220-$680
  • P-05

    Steam valve and wand seals

A manual wand that drips when closed needs its valve seal. A TurboSteam wand also has a solenoid and a small air compressor behind it, so "the automatic wand stopped frothing" is a different job from "the wand leaks".

    $150-$230
  • P-06

    Scale in the service boiler

Smart Boiler manages how the service boiler refills so that steam output holds up under load. It cannot make up for a boiler lined with scale. Slow steam recovery on a machine with no softener is a descale before it is a part.

    $320-$480

SECTION 06 · FAQ

Frequently asked.

Q-01 How much does La Cimbali repair cost?
One fault and a full service are two different jobs. A single repair is quoted per visit; taking the machine back to spec across every group is the flat figure above. Typical on a La Cimbali: gasket and screens $150-$225, a flowmeter $150-$250, a descale of the service boiler $320-$480. Typical figures, never a quote. What the repair costs depends on what we find. You get a written estimate before anything is done, and you can decline it — we bring the machine back and nothing further is owed.
Q-02 Are you La Cimbali authorized?
No. We are an independent service. Cimbali Group has its own US organisation, and a machine under warranty belongs with the dealer who sold it first. We service La Cimbali machines that are out of warranty, on site, with parts ordered from US distributors.
Q-03 The M100 is discontinued. Can it still be repaired?
Yes. Out of the catalogue is not out of parts. The group gasket, the flowmeters, the valves and the sensors are listed by US parts distributors, some by OEM number. Where a part has to be ordered, the lead time goes into the written estimate before you approve anything.
Q-04 One group has stopped heating. Can we keep serving on the others?
On an M100 or an M200, often yes, because each group has its own coffee boiler and the rest of the machine does not depend on it. Whether you should depends on what failed. A tripped safety thermostat is one thing and a shorted element is another. Call, read us the error on the screen, and we will tell you before you pull another shot.
Q-05 Can an M26 run on a normal 110-volt outlet?
Only two of them. The DT1 Tall Cup and the DT2 Compact are built in a 100–120 V version at 1,200–1,700 W. The full-size two-group needs 208–240 V. If an M26 keeps tripping a breaker, the first thing we look at is which version is on which circuit.
Q-06 Do you deal with the Bluetooth grinder link?
We deal with the machine side of it. The M100 GT reports pairing faults separately from machine faults, so a dropped link is easy to tell apart from a real failure. Setting up the grinder itself is Cimbali’s system, and their support is the right call for that.
SECTION 07 · CASE STUDY · HONEST OPINION
Typical call · how this fault usually goes

A typical call on a two-group M100: a restaurant bar reports short doses on the right group and an error on that group’s screen. The visit starts at the screen, then the flowmeter connector, which is re-seated and tested. If the error returns the flowmeter is replaced. Both group gaskets and screens are done on the same visit, because they are the same age. About 90 minutes, with the machine back in service before the evening.

Honest opinion

An M100 that needs a group element will bring a suggestion to replace it with an M200. Look at what the two machines are. Both have an independent coffee boiler on each group and a separate boiler for steam; the M200’s group boilers are 0.6 litres against 0.4. That is a refinement of the same design. If the frame is sound and the service boiler is not scaled through, repair the M100 and spend the difference on water treatment.
