FIG. 01 — EUREKA ATOM W 75
Compact matte-black Eureka espresso grinder with a short squared hopper, touchscreen and portafilter fork, on a wooden counter
COLLECTED
A square body, a short hopper and a screen. The adjustment knob on top moves the lower burr, so the upper one comes out for cleaning without losing the setting.
SECTION 01 · WHY US

Four differentiators

01

The setting survives the service

Eureka adjusts the lower burr, so the upper one lifts out without touching the grind. The grinder comes back at the number it left on, plus whatever the new burrs need.

02

The fork is calibrated, not guessed

An Atom W is calibrated with a sample weight through its own procedure, then checked across several doses on the bench.

03

Parts without an importer

There is no US importer to call. Screens, boards, switches, chutes and burr sets come from the US dealers that stock them, ordered against the model on the plate.

04

Mignon owners are not turned away

A Mignon costs less than the grinders this page is about. It jams the same way and it is cleared the same way, at the same flat price.

Eureka is made by Conti Valerio in Sesto Fiorentino, outside Florence. It names no US importer on its own site, so the warranty on a Eureka is the dealer’s: one year, parts and labor, at the big US retailers. The grinders are compact, and they are adjusted from the bottom burr, which is the clever part: the top burr comes out for cleaning and the setting stays where it was. The usual faults are a jam, a packed chute, and the electronics on the front.

SECTION 02 · MODELS WE SERVICE

Eureka line-up

M-01

Atom W 75

75 mm flat hardened steel burrs, 430 W, 1,400 rpm, 12 kg. It grinds by weight: the portafilter fork is a scale. Eureka gives the 75 mm steel set a life of 600 kg, and the manual says to check the burrs every 500 kg.

$1,899 new
M-02

Atom W 65

65 mm flat hardened steel burrs, 280 W, 11.5 kg. The same weighing fork on the smaller burr set.

$1,449-$1,549 new
M-03

Atom Excellence 75

75 mm burrs, 430 W, 12 kg. Timed dosing from a touchscreen, without the scale.

$1,499-$1,599 new
M-04

Helios 65, 75 and 80

65, 75 and 80 mm burrs. The Helios 75 weighs 15.2 kg, and one US dealer specifies a 20-amp circuit for it. Helios 80 is still sold here, though the factory’s current list shows only the 65 and 75.

$1,070-$1,599 new
M-05

Olympus 75 E Hi-Speed

75 mm hardened steel burrs on an 800 W motor. The fast one, for a bar with a line.

$1,379 new
M-06

Oro Zeus

85 mm Diamond Inside burrs, 400 W, variable speed from 750 to 1,400 rpm, 17 kg. An all-purpose grinder for espresso and filter.

$2,399 new
M-07

Drogheria MCD4 85

85 mm flat burrs. A shop grinder for retail bags, with the Blow Up system to clear what is left in the chute.

$1,399-$1,599 new
M-08

Atom 75, Atom Pro and the Mignon range

All under a thousand dollars: the Atom 75 and Atom Pro at $999, the Mignon Specialita at $549-$599. Serviced at the same grinder price. The Mignon manual puts burr replacement at about 250 kg.

SECTION 03 · COMMON PROBLEMS

What goes wrong on a Eureka

  • P-01

    Jammed after going finer

The most common Eureka fault, and it is in the dealers’ own support pages: the burrs jam when the grind is taken finer with beans loaded. The motor hums and the burr does not turn. The top burr comes out, the chamber is cleared, and the setting is still there when it goes back.

    $150-$230
  • P-02

    Chute packed, dose falling short

Fines pack the chute until it is half its width. On Atoms built before 2018 the chute was narrower and more prone to this, and a revised chute is sold as a part. On a timed grinder the first sign is a light dose at the same time setting.

    $150-$230
  • P-03

Burrs worn (65 and 75 mm sets)

Eureka’s figure for the 75 mm hardened steel set is 600 kg, with a check at 500. The burrs are reached from the top: hopper off, lid off, upper burr holder unscrewed. The coated Diamond Inside sets carry no factory figure in kilograms, only dealer estimates, so they are measured instead of assumed.

    $180-$320
  • P-04

    Screen dark, motor still runs

The connections between screen and board are checked first. If they are sound, the screen itself is replaced. It is a listed part.

  • P-05

Atom W weighing wrong, or stopping mid-dose

The fork is a load cell and it is calibrated with a sample weight from the keypad. The grinder stops on purpose if it sees no weight change, to protect the motor, so an empty hopper or a jam looks like a scale fault. The manual also says not to leave the portafilter resting on the fork.

  • P-06

Does not start when the portafilter is pushed in

The portafilter switch behind the fork. One part number serves the Atom, the Zenith and the Olympus. The on/off switch is the other suspect: grounds get into it.

  • P-07

    Hums and trips

After a jam is ruled out, the motor capacitor and its connections on the board. Then the thermal protection, which the manual says to treat by disconnecting the grinder and removing the cause, not by resetting it again.

Eureka Atom W 75, 75 mm flat burrs. The fork under the chute is a scale, and the grinder stops when the dose reaches its weight.
FIG. 03 — EUREKA — DOSE CONTROL

The dose is set on the screen. When the grinder takes longer to reach the same dose, the burrs or a packed chute are the cause.

SECTION 05 · FAQ

Frequently asked.

Q-01 How much is a Eureka grinder repair?
Flat for a service, which is the figure above, and per fault for a repair. Typical Eureka jobs: clearing a jam or a packed chute $150-$230, a 65 or 75 mm burr set fitted $180-$320. Electronic parts such as a screen or a board are quoted once the fault is confirmed. Typical numbers, never a quote by themselves. What the repair costs depends on what we find. You get a written estimate before anything is done, and you can decline it — we bring the machine back and nothing further is owed.
Q-02 My Eureka hums but will not grind. What happened?
It jammed, most likely when the grind was moved finer with beans in the hopper. Turn it off. Do not keep pressing the button: a stalled motor heats fast. Take the grind several turns coarser and try once. If it still hums, the chamber has to be opened.
Q-03 Is it worth repairing a Mignon?
Depends on the fault. A jam or a packed chute, yes, every time. A burr set, yes. A dead motor on a $300 Mignon, no, and we will say that at the diagnostic instead of after it. On an Atom W or a Zeus the answer is nearly always yes.
Q-04 Who covers the warranty on a Eureka in the US?
The dealer who sold it. Eureka’s site names no US importer, and the large US retailers give one year on parts and labor. Inside that year, call them. We are an independent shop and we do the work after it.
Q-05 How long do Eureka burrs last?
For the 75 mm hardened steel set Eureka says 600 kg, and the Atom W manual says to check at 500. For a Mignon the manual says about 250 kg. At home that is many years. On a small cafe bar using 8 kg a week, the 75 mm set is due in about a year and a half.
Q-06 Do I have to bring the grinder to you?
No. It is collected and returned by courier, and nothing is boxed by you. An Atom weighs about 12 kg. Empty the hopper before it goes, and tell us the grind number it was on. A cafe that cannot be without its grinder can book a visit, and the Eureka is serviced on the counter.
SECTION 06 · CASE STUDY · HONEST OPINION
Typical call · how this fault usually goes

A typical call on an Atom W 75 in a small cafe: the grinder stops halfway through a dose and the display blames the weight. The hopper is full. On the bench the top burr is lifted out and the chute behind the flap is found packed. The grinder was stopping because the fork saw no weight arriving. Chamber and chute are cleared, the burrs are measured, the fork is calibrated and ten doses are weighed. About an hour.

Honest opinion

Grind-by-weight is sold as a way to stop thinking about dose. On a Eureka it gives you one more thing to maintain. The fork is a scale, the scale needs calibrating, and the manual tells you not to leave the portafilter on it. For a bar where nobody will calibrate anything, the timed Atom Excellence is the better buy. It costs about $300 less and has nothing to calibrate.
